Chiaki Murata founded hers design Inc. in 1986 and currently serves as Chairman of the Japan Industrial Designers Association (JIDA) and Visiting Professor at Osaka Metropolitan University. Recognised globally as a design think tank, has introduced original methods such as the SSFB method and the Hexagon Graph for Sensibility Value that explores latent human behavior to inspire innovation. Primarily focused on product design, received over 200 domestic and international design awards, including the Good Design Award, DFA Grand Award, and German Design Award. Selected by Newsweek as one of the Global Focus 100 Japanese SMEs, known for impactful works like OMRON’s Spot Arm and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. A permanent exhibition, the “Design of Behavior Museum”, was established in Suzhou, China. Has authored multiple books on design thinking, including the acclaimed “Design of Behavior Thinking Method for Problem Solving”, “Potential of Sensibility Thinking”, among other works.
